Minnesota's Opioid Crisis: How bad is it?

What are we doing to help?

The United States is in the grips of an opioid epidemic. It’s killing 115 people per day and has accounted for the majority of the 64,000 drug overdose deaths in the United States in 2016. By comparison, more than 58,000 U.S. military died in the Vietnam War. The federal government in October 2017 declared the opioid crisis a national public health emergency.

Minnesota has not escaped the opioid crisis. In 2016, 395 Minnesotans lost their lives to opioid overdoses, an 18 percent increase over the year before. Since 2000, opioid overdoses have skyrocketed by 1,000 percent and deaths have grown by 600 percent.
