'Minnesota History Whatever 2: A Gathering of Historians' set for March 23, 2018 at American Swedish Institute

“Minnesota History Whatever 2: A Gathering of Historians” returns for the second year, on Friday, March 23, 2018 at the American Swedish Institute.

Cosponsored by the Minnesota Historical Society in partnership with the American Swedish Institute and Twin Cities Public Television (TPT), the how-to workshops, discussion sessions and networking opportunities offer participants the chance to think and talk together, solve problems, imagine new opportunities, and increase skills in the field of history.

“Minnesota History Whatever 2” is open to anyone who does history—whether its in classrooms, museums, exhibits, libraries, online, theater, visual arts, radio, television, film and more. Discussion topics include: Should museums be neutral spaces; how do historians manage conflicting histories; what are we teaching when we do Minnesota history; how to handle difficult topics with children; how to make/give a great tour; how to write local history; how to build partnerships; how to make documentaries and how to share history that’s meaningful.

“Minnesota History Whatever 2” will be held Friday, March 23, 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the American Swedish Institute, 2600 Park Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55407. The cost is $40 or $32 for MNHS and ASI members, $25 for participants younger than 30.

A reception will be held on Thursday, March 22, 6-8 p.m. at the East Side Freedom Library, 1105 Greenbrier St., St. Paul, MN 55106, cost is $10. At the reception, guests can meet old friends and make new ones and join a discussion about the relationship between history and the arts, with an emphasis on telling new stories. Light appetizers and a cash bar will be provided.
