Red Lake Warriors win in 77-76 overtime victory over Pine River - Set 2 - P5

RED LAKE - The Red Lake Warriors hosted the Pine River Tigers on Friday, January 12, 2018, getting a 77-76 overtime win and moving to 6-6 on the season.

Red Lake jumped out to an early lead 11-2 before Pine River started to fight back. The Warriors were still leading at the 7:50 mark 24-16, but the Tigers tied the game with less than a minute to go in the first half. Red Lake led 34-32 at the end of that half.

The Warriors led 68-65 at the 3:50 mark of the second half and led in fouls 8-1, and the Tigers went ahead 69-68 with 1:53 left to play, and with just a couple of seconds to go and the score tied at 71-71, Pine River had a chance to win but the half-court shot was missed.

In overtime, Red Lake was leading 77-76 with just 3 seconds remaining and had two shots at the freethrow line. Both shots were missed and the Warriors held on for the win.

Red Lake moved to 6-6 on the year, as did Pine River.

Kendall Whitefeather led the Warriors with 16, Evan Johnson had 10, Justin Barrett added 9, D.J. Holthusen and David Smith both had 8, Frank Papasodora hit for 7 and Cole Cobenais and Jalen Kelly each had 6. Andre Harrison had 4 points in the 4-minute overtime quarter.

Four Pine River players were in double figures with Nick Ackerman leading all scorers with 22, Torry Hirschey had 20, Brady Raph hit for 15 and Nathaniel Wosmek ut in 12.

The Warriors will travel to Minneapolis to play Mayer Lutheran in the SUPER 60 SHOWCASE on Saturday, along with St. Agnes on Monday, before returning home to host Kelliher-Northome on January 18th and travel to Nevis on January 23rd.

Red Lake's JV were also winners in their game played earlier.
