PFA Awards $5.3 Million for East Grand Forks Project

City will connect wastewater system to Grand Forks, N.D., facilities

ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) awarded a $5.3 million grant for wastewater system improvements in East Grand Forks.

The funding, which was approved by the Minnesota Legislature in the 2017 bonding bill, will enable East Grand Forks to connect its wastewater system with neighboring Grand Forks, N.D., and to decommission its wastewater stabilization ponds. The PFA previously awarded the project a $6.9 million loan.

“Communities across Minnesota face serious water-quality challenges,” said Governor Mark Dayton. “Last spring, I worked with the Minnesota Legislature to establish a grant program to help cities afford to make water-quality improvements. These grants and loans will help the residents of East Grand Forks to afford the clean water they deserve.”

“This project is the culmination of several years of planning by officials in East Grand Forks and Grand Forks,” said Shawntera Hardy, who chairs the PFA board and is commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. “The shared system will improve efficiencies and help the region meet the needs of a growing population and business community.”

The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority provides financing and technical assistance to help communities build and maintain infrastructure that protects public health and the environment and promotes economic growth. Since inception in 1987, the PFA has financed $4.5 billion in public infrastructure projects in communities throughout Minnesota. Read more at the PFA website.
