CHEMICAL HEALTH PROGRAMS

Primary Function:

The Medication Assisted Recovery Services (MARS) Cultural Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of honoring Native American culture through tradition, language, culturally rich environment, traditional foods and resources, reports to Clinic Supervisor, full-time with benefits, salary; DOQ.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

• Assist with ensuring cultural experiences and traditions are interwoven throughout the program to create an environment for culturally based recovery

• Guide and ensure Native American customs and traditions are embedded into the Medication Assisted Recovery Services (MARS) culture/language, stories, history, regalia, beading, birch bark making, quill work, etc.

• Assist in developing local Native American cultural resources

• Provide staff and parents with information and resources on language classes, books, opportunities and updates on what cultural resources are being offered throughout the community

• Develop a cultural and healthy weekly meal plan

• Teach clients how to prepare traditional and nutritious meals

• Ensure facilities are cleaned after each meal

• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Skilled in healthy meal planning and cooking

• Ability to be supportive of medication based recovery from opiate dependence

• Knowledgeable of local cultural resources and events

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

• Skilled in working cooperatively with a team

• Knowledge of the demographics, culture, customs and geography of Minnesota tribes

• Skilled in developing positive report with clients, peers, parents, and external partners

• Ability to refrain from judgment

Qualifications:

• Must be over the age of 18

• GED/High School Diploma

• Familiar with local resources for chemical, mental, and physical health

• Valid Minnesota driver's license and automobile insurance

• Must be free from chemical use problems for at least (2) years

• Employment contingent upon successfully passing Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Test and Background Check
