Lady Warriors lose 1st game of year to Stephen-Argyle 75-62 at NCTC Holiday Tournament

THIEF RIVER FALLS - Last year Stephen-Argyle defeated the Lady Warriors 65-64 in the championship game at the NCTC Holiday Tournament, a game that saw Stephen-Argyle leading by 10 in the first half and Red Lake coming back to lead 35-33 at the half. Then, Red Lake led by 10 themselves in the second half, only to see Stephen-Argyle chip back and take the lead by 1 point after a free-throw with 2.3 seconds left on the clock.

Grace White inbounded to Samantha Roy, and Roy's shot at the buzzer hit the rim a couple of times but would not go in. That loss was Red Lake's first of the year, as they went to 6-1.

This year, in the championship semi-finals of the 2017 NCTC Holiday Tournament in Thief River Falls, the Lady Warriors sputtered in the last seven minutes of the final half, against Stephen-Argyle, taking their first loss of the season 75-62.

There were numerous lead changes in the game, and at the half it was tied, 40-40. But, Red Lake committed a lot of fouls and 3 of their starters had each fouls. Stephan-Argyle capitalized on the fouls and were 18-19 from the line.

Red Lake took the lead in the second half, but that changed several times with each exchanging baskets and taking the lead.

Red Lake led 62-61 midway through the second half, and that was the last time they would lead--or score a basket at about the 7 minute mark.

Three Red Lake starters fouled out as well, as the Storm slowed up the pace and held on to win.

Autumn Holthusen and Angel McClain each had 21 points for the Lady Warriors, Kelanna McClain hit for 8 points and Alexis Desjarlait added 7.

Abi McGlynn led Stephen-Argyle with 30 and Autumn Thompson 24, and went 23-27 from the free throw line.

The Lady Warriors drop to 6-1 on the season (just like last year) and will play for 3rd place on Friday.
