Red Lake Lady Warriors open season with 79-33 win over Blackduck - P10

December 7, 2017

RED LAKE - The Red Lake Lady Warriors opened their 2017-18 season at home on Thursday, November 30, 2017, having no trouble with Blackduck, 79-33.

The Lady Warriors led 49-19 at the half, adding 30 more points in the second half to start the season 1-0.

Alexis Desjarlait led Red Lake with 30 points, 19 coming in the first half, followed by Autumn Holthusen with 18, Gerika Kingbird 12 and Angel McClain adding 10.

Johanna Swedberg led Blackduck with 9 points.

Red Lake won the Girls 8A Section Championship for the first time ever last year defeating Clearbrook-Gonvick that led to a trip to the state tournament.

Going into their first game the Cromwell-Wright Cardinals were the number two offense in MN girls class A at 80.2 points per game with the Red Lake Warriors leading Class A at 82.8 points per game. But it was the Cardinals that had the hot hand this night making 13 three point shots to break their own state record for three point makes by a team in a season while jumping out to an early double digit lead. Late in the second half the Warriors started to get the offense going but the deficit was too big for them to overcome.

In the Consolation Semi-Final game Red Lake led Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther by as many as 15 points in the early minutes of the second half, only to lose their lead and take a 69-63 loss.

The Red Lake Lady Warriors ended their season 24-4 on the year.

Red Lake travels to the Sanford Center in Bemidji on Friday, December 1st to play Fosston at 6 PM in the Homark Homes Hardwood Showcase, travel to Nevis on December 5th and are back home to host Walker-Hackensack-Akley. Full schedule available below.

The Red Lake Junior Varsity won their game earlier, and in the Middle School Gym there were two other games with the Jr. High and 9th grade teams.
