Red Lake Police Department: Missing Fishermen Update - Day 8

Red Lake Police Department: Missing Fishermen Update - Day 8

11/14/17 - Dive team members from the North East Regional Water Rescue Team and Stutsman County dive team along with members from a Fargo dive team spent the day searching both frozen and open water between first and second bridge on the old Ponemah road on lower Red Lake. The dive teams were deployed out of the first landing and Red Lake law enforcement maintained the command center at second landing in addition to supporting the agencies with equipment and personnel as needed. Families and loved ones of the missing fisherman remain vigilant at third bridge.

The agencies conducting the search for the two missing fisherman launched two air boats each equipped with ROV (Remotely operated underwater vehicle) to search near and around the area where it was reported that the fisherman's boat capsized.

Unfortunately, the fisherman were not located today and the dive teams will be deploying early Wednesday morning and working throughout the day dependent upon weather conditions and are hoping for the best.

As usual we want to thank everybody for the food and drinks, tribal council and community's support for our efforts and those assisting us to bring these loved ones home.

MISSING FISHERMEN UPDATE - Day 6

On Saturday November 11, 2017, RLDPS, RLFD and assisting agencies along with volunteers and family continued the search for the missing fishermen.

The law enforcement command center will remain at second bridge and personnel will be monitoring ice conditions for cold weather dives. We will continue to make site preparations for upcoming dives.

Again Law Enforcement is requesting for all individuals to stay off the lake near designated search areas until further notice.

Once again, thanks for the donated food, drinks and firewood and continued assistance from other agencies.

MISSING FISHERMEN UPDATE

On Friday November 10, 2017, RLDPS, RLFD and assisting agencies along with volunteers and family members continued to work wooded and shoreline areas between 1st and 3rd bridge and were still unable to locate the two missing fishermen.

In addition, we were unable to use Cadaver dogs in deeper bodies of water due to shifting ice and inconsistent ice thickness.

The law enforcement command center has been moved to 2nd bridge and law enforcement will continue to maintain its presence until the ice thickens up for future cold water dive operations.

Law Enforcement is requesting for all individuals to stay off the lake near designated search areas until further notice. This request will stay in place until we adequately determine that the lake is safe for portions of the lake where law enforcement intends to conduct cold weather dives once the ice is deemed safe for travel.

Drilling of holes is not permitted near designated search areas as it will continue to weaken the shoreline due to upcoming warmer temperatures and law enforcement needs stable ice to get further out onto the lake with adequate equipment.

Once again, thanks for the donated food, drinks and firewood and continued assistance from other agencies.
