Elizabeth "Liz" Johnson, age 64, of Mahnomen, MN, died unexpectedly, Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Red Lake Hospital in Red Lake, MN.

Elizabeth "Liz" Johnson was born November 10, 1952, in White Earth, MN, to Charles and Gertrude (Keim) Antell. She grew up in the Minneapolis area spending most of her childhood near Harris, MN. As a young woman, Liz was blessed with a daughter Gina, who was the light of her life. They made their home in North Branch, MN, with Liz's sister, before moving to Waterloo, IA. In the early 1980's, Liz and Gina moved to the Lengby, MN area, where she worked at the sewing factory near Naytahwaush, MN. She later started a long-term career at the Shooting Star Casino. Liz met and married Clarence Johnson in 1992, and the couple made their home in Mahnomen. Liz has spent the last 25 years employed at the Casino, where she was currently the slot supervisor. Liz enjoyed being with family and spending time with her grandchildren. She cherished the sight of seeing them laugh and smile, which they often did as she teased and joked around with those she loved. She had a compassionate personality and was known to care for and adopt all the area cats. Even when they reproduced beyond her control, she never let them go hungry. Liz also enjoyed spending time at the Casino and going for drives in her pickup. Liz is survived by her husband, Clarence of Mahnomen, MN; her daughter, Gina Turpin (Jennifer Cooley) of Myrtle Creek, OR; three grandchildren: Sarah Turpin of Waverly, MN, Kellie Turpin of Fargo, ND, and Zachary Turpin of Myrtle Creek, OR; her mother, Gertrude Antell of Mahnomen; her sisters: Charlotte Beenken, Jenny Lafspuen, Sharon (Dean) Beeken, Cynthia Billington, Patricia (Donald) Beenken, April Antell, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles; her brother, Charles Antell; and her one sister, Annette Cronan.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN.
