21st Annual Anishinaabe Spirit Run began on Wednesday - Set 2 - P12

Will finish at Mashkawisen Pow Wow Grounds in Sawyer, MN on August 5th

RED LAKE - The 21st Annual Anishinaabe Spirit Run, a four-day run for sobriety and health, began at the Red Lake Powwow Grounds at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, and will finish at Fond du Lac's Mash-ka-wisen Powwow Grounds in Sawyer, MN on Saturday, August 5, 2017.

After prayers, trip protocols and an honor song, runners began the trip by running through the town of Red Lake before coming down Highway #89 towards Bemidji. They will come into the City of Bemidji on Highway 2, and then through the City on Paul Bunyan Drive. Once on the south side of Bemidji, runners will then head east toward Leech Lake on the Old Cass Lake Highway.

They will camp in Leech Lake the first night, before traveling to Grand Rapids on the second day. On the fourth day, they will arrive at the Fond du Lac's Mash-ka-wisen Powwow Grounds in Sawyer, MN.

The Spirit Run is sponsored by Red Lake Chemical Health Programs in collaboration with Leech Lake Youth Programs.

Schedule

Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – Depart Leech Lake for Grand Rapids Camp Grounds; 3:00 p.m. – Arrive at Grand Rapids for picnic, and Camping

Friday: 10:00 a.m. – Depart Grand Rapids and end at Floodwood Minnesota; 5:00 p.m. – Arrive at Floodwood, and return to Grand Rapids Camp Grounds

Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – Depart Floodwood for Fond du Lac. Arrive at the Mash-ka-wisen pow wow grounds around Grand Entry for the start of the Annual Celebration of Sobriety.
