Natives Against Heroin: Walk Against Substance Abuse held in Red Lake - Set 2 - P18

On Monday, July 24 2017, Natives Against Heroin: Walk Against Substance Abuse was held in Red Lake.

The event, billed as, "a community-wide effort focusing on the end of substance abuse for the overall health and wellness of the community in support of the Red Lake Tribal Council's efforts to help bring awareness and end substance abuse within the community," began with the line up at 1 PM at the Reservation Line and the walk starting at 2 PM from the Red Lake Hospital to the Red Lake Pow Wow Grounds.

Over 300 men, women and children took part in the walk, many carrying signs and a drum group providing songs along the way.

Once at the Pow Wow Grounds there were presentations, honor songs, a jungle dress ceremony and a question and answer panel. A pot luck style feast also took place near the end, with Red Lake Walleye provided by the Red Lake Nation Fisheries.

This public event was facilitated by James Cross, George Head, Thomas Barrett, Alyss Mountain and Ryan Neadeau. The speakers included Natives Against Heroin group Ryan Neadeau, Jasmine and James Cross.
