Janice Smith, age 70, of Mahnomen, MN, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Oak Cross Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.

Janice Ione Smith was born on September 11, 1946 to Leland and Verona (Martin) Busse in Fosston, MN. She grew up in Beaulieu, MN where she attended and later graduated high school. Janice's attention was soon set on Micky Littlewolf and shortly after the couple was married. During their marriage, they were blessed with three children. They moved out to California for a few years before returning to the area and later divorcing. Janice moved to Detroit Lakes, MN where she married Carl Smith Sr. Through this union, the couple was blessed with two children. They later returned to the Mahnomen area and separated ways. Janice went on to attend college in Detroit Lakes, MN. Janice has continued to make her home in Mahnomen since.

In Janice's younger years she enjoyed spending time with her Dad and brother's working outdoors. Janice has always been known for her wonderful baking. She enjoyed attending social gatherings and spending time with her sisters. Janice never missed the opportunity to purchase gifts and spoil her grandchildren.

Janice is survived by two sons, Michael (Brenda) Littlewolf, of Mahnomen and Carl Jr (Kaylee) Smith of Detroit Lakes; two daughters, Wendy Littlewolf and Rebecca Bjorge, both of Mahnomen; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim (Diane) Busse, Mahnomen; three sisters: Sue (Dick) Buche, Hackensack, MN, Pat (Duane) Spaeth, Mahnomen, and Chris Olson, Ackley, MN; one sister-in-law, Marcy Busse, Mahnomen, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Janice is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joseph; two brothers, Myron and Bill Busse; two sisters, Lois Steckley and Marge Pederson; and two brothers-in-law, Ed Pederson and Ed Steckley.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beaulieu, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
