Edna Nancy Johnson, 78, of Ponemah, MN died Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Ponemah Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah, MN. A wake will begin at 1:00pm, Thursday, July 20, 2017, at the Ponemah Boys and Girls Club, and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be at Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji.

She was born on August 18, 1938, in Ponemah, MN the daughter of John and Bessie (Sigana) Blakely. She was raised and educated in Ponemah. She moved to Fargo, ND, and attended business college. She married Paul Johnson, and they moved to St. Paul for 7 years, before returning home to Ponemah. She worked at the Bureau of Indian Affairs, at the Red Lake Police Department as a Dispatcher, at the Jourdain-Perpich Extended Care Center as a CNA, at Red Lake Transportation as a Driver, in the Red Lake Tribal Court System as an Appellate Judge, and as a certification worker for the Food Distribution Program. She enjoyed reading, attending pow-wows, and going to the Casino. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, including raising her granddaughter since she was a baby.

12 Grandchildren, 26 Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, children Paul Edwin Johnson, Darla Jean Johnson, great-granddaughter Avielle Jane Johnson, two brothers, and six sisters.

Active Casketbearers will be: Tyler Johnson, Paul Johnson, Jared Martin, William Jones IV, James Lussier Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Chris Hurd, Kevin Johnson Jr., Leland Smith, with alternates: Chad Hurd, and Douglas Beaulieu Jr.

Honorary Casketbearers will be: All of Edna’s Family and Friends.
