Ted Graves Sr. had went fishing on Red Lake on Friday, June 16, 2017 and had not returned home.

On Tuesday, June 20, 2017, Melvin Whitefeather Sr. and his son-in-law Kevin Patterson were searching the east port of upper Red Lake. They made it as far as the Old Camp Road landing. There they had to turn around because of motor trouble, perhaps gas line trouble. They were traveling back to the Point area at a very slow place when they came upon an object, and as they got closer they could see what appeared to be camouflage.

It was their friend Teddy...

On Tuesday, June 20, 2017, the Red Lake Police Department again wrote on their Facebook page the following: On behalf of the Red Lake Department of Public Safety Search and Rescue and Conservation Enforcement Division, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the lost fishermen who was recovered today. We also want to thank the Ponemah and surrounding community for their outstanding commitment and dedication by providing their own boats and operators who worked side by side with our law enforcement during the last five days.

A special thank you goes to the local community members who prepared meals and provided drinks during our search and also to the tribal council and local tribal businesses who also provided food, drinks and snacks as well.

We also want to acknowledge and thank the FBI, MN DNR and MN Civil Air Patrol for providing Air Support and the US Border Patrol, Red Lake Fisheries, Red Lake And Ponemah Fire Department, Leech Lake Conservation and Leech Lake Tribal Police and Lake of the Woods Sheriffs Department for waterway assistance and also the Beltrami County Sheriffs Department.

More information regarding this incident will follow after notification of relatives.
