Marlene (Kingbird) French, 68, of Ponemah, Minnesota began her spiritual journey from the Red Lake Hospital in Red Lake, MN on June 16, 2017. Her indian name was "Mindimooyenh", which means "Old Lady". She was born on September 26, 1948 to Charles Kingbird and Norma (Sullivan) Kingbird.

Marlene graduated from Red Lake in 1967, she had various jobs including Activities Assistant for JPECC, which she loved. She married the love of her life, George French, Sr., on July 2, 1983. They made their home and life in Ponemah. She loved doing puzzles books, cooking, going to the casino and visiting family and friends. She also enjoyed taking scenic rides.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her son; Sheldon (Karla) French, daughter; Robin (Robert French, Jr.) Kingbird, five pride and joys; grandchildren; Marlee M. French, Megan R. French, Dayton R. French, Daylen R. French, Robert French III, brothers; Myron (Rose) Kingbird of Ponemah, Isaac Kingbird, Sr. of Grand Rapids, MN, stepchildren; George French, Jr., Debbie French, Yolanda French, Cordell French, adopted son; Alfred Thomas and Kristine French.

Those welcoming her home are her husband; George, mother; Norma, father; Charles Kingbird, brothers; Duane Kingbird, Wallace Kingbird, Sr., Melvin Kingbird, Sr., Emerson Kingbird, sister; Dora Kingbird and daughter; Marlys French.

A wake for Marlene will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2017 and will continue until her 9:00 a.m. traditional service on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 all being held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah, Minnesota. Steve Jackson will be her spiritual advisor. Pallbearers for Marlene will be Mitchell Kingbird, Dayton French, Robert Johnson, Jr., Travis Johnson, Sr., Llewellyn Kingbird, Randy Holthuson, Carter Dow and Charles Kingbird, Sr. Her honorary pallbearers are Nancy Johnson, Mary Winegardener, Rose Rosebear, Wanda Kingbird, Glendoris Kingbird, Bonnie Kingbird, Brenda Kingbird, Charlene Kingbird, Lisa French, Doreen French, Cheri Goodwin, Red Lake Dialysis Unit and all of her nephews. Interment will be in the Kingbird Family Burial Grounds at Ponemah, Minnesota following her Wednesday service.
