Bemidji Pioneer: Minnesota lawmakers try to wrap up state budget with a couple major bills finalized

ST. PAUL—State Rep. Bob Loonan delivered just what Minnesota legislators needed as they struggled Thursday, May 25, to wrap up the state budget.

The second-term state lawmaker from Shakopee did not offer a solution to thorny issues about budget or policy that soon would be hotly debated in the House and Senate. Instead, he played calming music on his harmonica as lawmakers gathered for what they hoped was the third and last day of what was supposed to be a one-day session to finish passing a $46 billion, two-year budget.
