Knute C. Naastad, 86 of Bemidji, MN died on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Bemidji, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji.

He was born May 1, 1931 on the Johnson farmstead near Hatton, North Dakota, the son of Knut and Inez (Kuhn) Naastad. He was confirmed at the Lutheran Church at Northwood, ND (Every other Sunday service was in Norwegian. He was educated in Northwood, ND. Knute, his dad and older brother Ronald went hunting every fall; their game being, geese, ducks, pheasant and deer. He started his bowling career at the age of 10 and joined bowling leagues at the age of 16. He was awarded trophies and cash prizes for the many tournaments he entered. He was very proud of his Hall of Fame Award. He was always looking for that perfect 300 game. He worked as a carpenter in his early years. They went to work for Kirby Co in Grand Forks, Jamestown, and Fargo, ND which he owned and operated. He then moved to Bemidji, MN in 1976. In 1985 he opened the Vacuum and Service Center Store which he and his wife would work and operate. He always praised his children and grandchildren about their successes and accomplishments. He loved to hear the journey they went on to get where they are in life. He was very proud of all of them. He met Lucy Crawford and they married in December of 1970. Together they raised 4 girls.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Naastad of Bemidji; 4 daughters, Julie (Neal) Horn of Ramsey, Cynthia Wilcox of Eden Prairie, Karen (Rex) Fernald of Ham Lake, and Cindy (Scott) Tuomala of Bemidji; brother, Jack (Rosemary) Naastad of Turtle River; 9 grandchildren, Missy Horn, Angela Stoltz, Bill Horn, Stephanie Munoz, Shelby Wilcox, Shawn Citrowski, Cody Fernald, Dallas Fernald and Eli Tuomala; 9 great grandchildren; nephews, David Naastad, John Naastad and Marshal Naastad; nieces, Becky Fishel, Mary Soave, Beth Toay, Jody Wolvern.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Marion Wake and Lucille Lund and brothers, Carroll and Ronald Naastad.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
