Leech Lake Financial Services' Team Wasaya is bringing solar to the Leech Lake Reservation, Cass Lake through a $60,000 award

CASS LAKE — Leech Lake Financial Services (LLFS) has been selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Initiative’s Solar in Your Community Challenge, a $5 million prize competition that aims to expand solar electricity access to low and moderate income families.

Over the next 18 months Leech Lake Financial Services’ Team Wasaya (“power of sunshine” in Ojibwe) will be researching and developing innovative approaches that enable low and moderate income families, nonprofits and non-federal governments within the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation and the city of Cass Lake to access solar power.
