As federal budget deadline looms, tribal leaders discuss IHS funding requests

SPOKANE - With the potential federal shutdown looming if a budget bill or a continuing resolution is not passed by April 29, a discussion today at the 2017 Tribal Self-Governance Annual Consultation Conference in Spokane concerning the Indian Health Service budgets through fiscal year 2019 took a heavy tone.

Currently, the federal government is operating on a continuing resolution that expires at midnight, Friday, and the anticipation is for another continuing resolution to fund the government until a budget deal can be made, said Elizabeth Fowler, Deputy Director for Management Operations at IHS.
