PSA Region 2 Arts Council April 29 Arts Expo

Region 2 Arts Council invites arts appreciators, artists, craftspeople, organizations, teachers and school administrators, city planners, town and city officials, and the general public to the first ever Region 2 Arts Council Arts Expo on Saturday April 29, 2017 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at 303 Railroad Street in the Rail River Folk School building in Bemidji.

Resource tables, presentations, arts demonstrations and an exhibition showcasing the work of the area’s finest bead workers, painters, photographers, quill workers, and quilt makers are all part of the Arts Expo. Representatives from the Minnesota State Arts Board, the McKnight Foundation, First Peoples Fund, Region 2 Arts Council and more will be on hand to discuss funding and opportunities for artists and arts organizers.

Sheila Smith from Creative MN and Minnesota Citizens for the Arts will be on hand to present the latest study on the economic impact of the arts in our region and in the state. Local and regional gallery directors will be sharing information on the process for exhibiting in their gallery spaces. VSA Minnesota will present on expanding participation among audiences and artists with disabilities. Arts organizations will discuss ways to engage as a participant or volunteer. The first ever Region 2 Arts Council Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Fellow, Tom Stillday of Ponemah, will be honored and receive his $5,000.00 grant award.

Arts demonstrations by local musicians, visual, and performing artists will be happening throughout the day. This event is free and open to the public.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota due to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and with funding from the McKnight Foundation.
