State Patrol troopers in North Dakota not wearing name tags

The 17 Wisconsin State Patrol officers sent to North Dakota last week to help disperse an encampment of oil pipeline protesters on federal land are not wearing name tags on their uniforms during their nine-day assignment.

The anonymity is intended to protect the privacy of law enforcement officers in emotionally charged situations, but faces criticism from civil rights advocates who say it can escalate hostility.
