PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE- LAKE CONDITION WARNING

On today's date, February 22, 2017, The Red Lake Department of Public Safety Conservation Enforcement Division conducted a lake assessment survey of ice conditions on Lower Red Lake and has now determined that there are a number of locations near the shoreline and on the lake near ice heaves typically crossed that are rapidly deteriorating. These areas are no longer capable of supporting motor vehicles such as trucks and cars.

Due to the concerns of decaying ice in conjunction with mild weather, the recommended mode of travel is small motorized vehicles such as ATV's and Snowmobiles or by foot.

In addition, the decision was made to post phone the upcoming community fishing event in Redby scheduled for this coming Saturday, February 25. The event will still be considered for a future date dependent upon colder weather conditions and stronger and more stabilized ice.

Please use extreme caution when venturing on the lake during the upcoming weeks for fishing and pay attention to black ice, honey comb appearances and portions of the lake holding large and heavy amounts of water upon ice surfaces.
