A march against violence: Tuesday event to raise awareness of violence against indigenous women

BEMIDJI—From Feb. 13, 2015 to June 5, 2016, two Native American women and one Native American girl died at the hands of men in their lives within the city of Bemidji. Nationwide, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, one in three Native women reports having been raped during her lifetime.

A group of four local women and other supporters hope to address this violence against indigenous women during a Valentine's Day walk in honor of those who are missing and murdered. The event is the first of its kind in Bemidji, and will be held in solidarity with similar marches in Minneapolis and Duluth.
