MACY -- Omaha Tribe of Nebraska members demanded Monday that three tribal council members charged last week with misuse of federal funds be removed from office.
Demonstrators submitted an ethics complaint against tribal council treasurer Jessica Webster-Valentino, secretary Jeff Miller and member Rodney Morris, who were among eight current and former council members and a tribal employee charged in a federal indictment accusing them of offenses related to using federal funds to make illegal payments to themselves.
"We're hoping the chairman will do the right thing and remove them," said Charles Baxter, a tribal elder. "I think that's the best step taken that I can see to move this tribe forward."
