Shirley Jean White, age 54, began her spiritual journey on September 19, 2016 from North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN. She was born on October 30, 1961 in Minneapolis, MN to Hartley and Lillian (Paper) White.

Shirley spent her earlier years on the Leech Lake Reservation and moved to Minneapolis. She attended Flandreau High School and obtained her G.E.D. in 1980. Shirley moved to Brooklyn Park where she lived with her eldest daughter, LillyAnn, her husband and grand kids. Shirley loved to travel and taking road trips, especially up north to visit her kids and grandchildren. She was a free spirited woman that could not sit still or stay in any one place for very long. Shirley enjoyed dancing at and attending pow-wows. She was a very compassionate, loving and caring lady who didn't have much but would give everything she had to someone in need, even her last dollar. She was an amazing cook, liked to play scrabble, do crosswords, read books and magazines, play cards and bingo. Shirley loved all her grandchildren to the moon and back.

The family that welcomes her home are her parents; Hartley and Lillian White, sister; Rachel White, brothers; Joseph White and Donald Pepworth, nieces; Constance and Deanna White, nephews; Arnold Wade and Michael "Mikey" Howard, Jr.

Shirley leaves behind her children; LillyAnn (Reynol) Cuevas of Brooklyn Park, Duane Carmona of Cass Lake, Keith Carmona of Cass Lake, Joseph (Nikki Kingbird) Carmona of Cass Lake, Lagina (Silas Blue, Jr.) Carmona of Cass Lake and Angelina Madigan of Bena, sisters; Linda Morris of Cass Lake, Donna White of Longville, Peggy White and Jean Howard both of Minneapolis, brother; Hartley "Little Man" (Diane Oshea) White, Jr. of Longville, 24 grandchildren and her furry four legged friend Chico, several aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

A wake for Shirley will begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 23rd and continue until her 10:00 a.m. traditional service on Saturday, September 24th all being held at the Bena Community Center in Bena.
