Joanne Marie Hanks, 73 years old, of Walker went home on Monday, September 12, 2016 from Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji, Minnesota. She was born in Cass Lake, MN on May 19, 1943 to Frederick and Margaret (Lincoln) Hanks.

Joanne, mother of nine children, was very family oriented. Most days you'd find her spending her time with her children, grandchildren and siblings. Sharing a meal, laughing and if you were lucky she'd get a good game of Yahtzee started. One of her favorites.

She was known to many for her big heart. Her home was always open to those in need of a place to lay there heads or something to eat. Everyone knew she was an amazing cook and made some pretty darn good fry bread and scallop potatoes.

To many she'll be remembered for her love of music, dancing and having a good time. A good time that included a few stops at her favorite casino to make her little donation. Although several years ago her little donation paid off and she won a $20,000. Car. A shiny new red one. Her first ever brand new car! It was an exciting moment for her and it planted a smile on her face for many years after.

In memory of Joanne (our mother) our family asks that you call a family member or friend you haven't seen for a while and share a meal with them. Tell them how much you love them and appreciate them before it's too late. Share simple acts of kindness and love.

Joanne is preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Margaret, son; Jessie James, sisters; Virginia and Betty, and brothers; Joe and Donald.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her sons; Joey, Ducky and Ricky, daughters; Debbie, Minnie, Dorothy, Sandy and Shirley, brothers; Gene, Larry, Calvin and Chuck, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, other relatives and her friends.

A wake for Joanne will begin at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 13th and continue until her 2:00 p.m. memorial service on Thursday, September 15th all being held at the Onigum Community Center in Onigum, MN. Father George Ross will officiate. Her honorary pallbearers are all her family and friends.

Joanne's care has been entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker. Online condolences may be left for the family at http://www.northernpeace.com
