OJIBWE IMMERSION CURRICULUM WRITER

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & PLANNING

OPEN: August 16, 2016 – Until Filled

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Develop Curriculum for the Red Lake Ojibwe Immersion School. Reports to Director of Economic Development & Planning, full-time, w/benefits, salary; DOQ.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Be in charge of the curriculum development for the Immersion school.

• Participate in the Ojibwe Advisory Committee meetings and collaborate with the Committee members, associated teachers, and other personnel, to develop curriculum for both the Red Lake Immersion School and the New Beginnings Program

• Incorporate traditional Ojibwe teachings into curriculum in conjunction with Head Start 3 and 4 year old benchmarks

• Coordinate efforts to create language assessments and student progress markers in the Ojibwe language

• Translate or create reading books

• Develop song books, tapes, and singing activities for curriculum

• Establish clear roadmaps ahead of time for teachers and other related personnel to follow per the given curriculum

• Maintain high expectations for learners per the curriculum created

• Have good organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner

• Be punctual and professional in all job related activities

• Have strong communication skills and professionally articulate plans and ideas with team

• Have a commitment and drive for Ojibwe language revitalization

• Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A Bachelor's Degree in Education or other related field with emphasis in Anishinaabe Studies or Ojibwe Teacher Training preferred

• A minimum of three years teaching experience preferred

• Must demonstrate Intermediate oral and written Ojibwemowin proficiency

• Knowledge and/or experience in immersion instructional methodology preferred.

• Ability to work closely and effectively with Elders and small children

• Ability to travel in and out of state, obtain a valid MN driver's license, and obtain current auto insurance

• Must have extensive computer experience

• Willing to work intensive and long hours

• American Indian Preference

• Must successfully pass pre-employment drug testing and State, Federal or International Background checks
