Man accused of robbery pleads not guilty

BEMIDJI -- A Bemidji man accused of hitting and stomping on a woman before taking her purse pleaded not guilty to one charge of simple robbery Monday.

Gerome James Winkler, 25, has been held in the Beltrami County Jail since his July 9 arrest. Bail was set earlier this month at $25,000 without conditions and $10,000 with conditions.

Winkler is also being held on two misdemeanor charges.
