Lori Piestewa National Native American Games brings thousands to Scottsdale

Around 15 years ago, the staff of the Arizona Sports and Entertainment Commission was discussing how they could expand the Grand Canyon State Games, as well as how to better reach under-served populations.

As Gary Nees, senior director of events and operations for the Arizona Sports and Entertainment Commission, the Grand Canyon State Games, and the Lori Piestewa National Native American Games recalls, as they tried to identify a project they could work on, someone brought up Lori Piestewa.
