PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Head Start Director is responsible for managing the curriculum, overseeing facilities hiring and managing day to day operations for the Head Start Program. This position requires contact and interaction with the Federal Regional Office, community agencies/partners, state/local government agencies. In addition, this position is responsible for the oversight of grant management, budget operations, performance benchmarks, training and technical assistance, legal and program governance. Reports to the Executive Administrator, full-time position w/benefits, salary; DOQ.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• To ensure that the Policy Council is established and functions in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards

• To ensure that the Head Start personnel policies are adhered to and approved by the parent Policy Council

• Promote active parent involvement in the total program in conjunction with other staff

• Work in a collaborative manner with program staff in planning and implementing Head Start activities

• Develop and prepare all program proposals and applications for funding

• Develop and regularly monitor program budget. Coordinate billing and budgeting with the Accounting Department

• Establish CDA credentials and other career development opportunities for staff and parents

• Participate in fundraising and grant writing activities

• Participate in training, meetings, conferences, and/or other program reporting as required by immediate supervisor, and Head Start Performance Standards

• Identify potential community resources and additional funding streams and establish working relationships with other human services programs

• Conduct on site visits of all program locations on a weekly basis

• Assigns, develops, trains, supervises and evaluates program staff and their job performance

• Develops and implements in-service training and technical assistance plan

• Schedule and conduct staff meetings on regular basis

• To ensure the maintenance and safe environment of the Head Start facilities

• To maintain communication with parents, Grantee, Policy Council and community

• Purchase and oversee property inventory

• To assume the responsibility of being the designated persons to report suspected child abuse and serve as a direct link with Tribal Social Services

• To assume all other responsibilities as designated in the revised Performance Standards

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE:

• B.S. in Administration with Early Childhood Endorsement and/or Associate of Arts Degree with three years management and/or three years early childhood experience.

• Must possess organizational and management skills.

• Must show successful skill and proficiency in program planning.

• Must be a motivated self-starter, dependable and able to travel both in and out of state.

• Knowledgeable in the use of computers and office machines.

• Must have valid Minnesota Driver License and own personal vehicle with current auto insurance.

• Employment contingent upon successfully passing Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Test and Background Check.
