Five tribes donate over $500K for Democratic party's convention

Five tribes -- including three from California -- have donated more than $500,000 for the upcoming Democratic National Convention.

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians from California, the Gila River Indian Community of Arizona, the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians in California, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota and the Table Mountain Rancheria of California each gave $100,200 for the event next month, according to a filing a document filed with the Federal Election Commission. The donations, all of which were made in May, came to a total of $501,000.

The tribal contributions are significant because they account for about half of the total amount raised by the Democratic National Committee during the entire month of May, Bob Biersack wrote on the OpenSecrets Blog for the Center for Responsive Politics.
