Karen Marie Goodteacher, age 50, "Bwan Ikwe" which means "Sioux Lady" and "Lil Iodine Rings" of Redby, Minnesota began her journey to the spirit world from her home on June 19th, 2016. Karen was born on July 25, 1965 in Washington D.C. the daughter of Cletus and Myrna (Mosher) Hardy.

Karen was born in Washington D.C. but lived all of her life in the Red Lake and Redby area. Karen went to boarding school and graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 1983. After graduating, she went right to work painting houses for Red Lake Housing. After a year or two, Karen decided to pursue her Certified Nursing Assistant certification. She then worked for the Jourdain-Perpich Nursing Home for the next 14 years. Karen was kind hearted and gentle which is why everyone called her "Nanny" and she was always babysitting and taking care of all the neighborhood kids. Karen was a fun loving woman who had nicknames for all of her nieces and nephews. In her spare time she like to play Keno at the casino, sew knit but she especially loved to crochet. She will be remembered for making the "best" baked beans ever from scratch. Karen will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Those welcoming her home to the spirit world are her grandma; Elsie Johnson, grandparents Adolph and Vera Goodteacher, aunt; Peggy Counoyer, uncle; Gregory Johnson, Sr., cousin; Gregory "Joe" Johnson, Jr., great auntie and uncle; Mary and Tony Wilson, and numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She leaves behind her life partner of 22 years; Roland Wilson, Sr. of Redby, son; Roland Wilson, Jr of Redby, daughter; Megan Marie Wilson of Redby, mother and special dad; Myrna and Clifford Hardy of Ponemah, father; Cletus (Mary Hill) Goodteacher of Aberdeen, SD, special daughter; Gloria Jackson, brothers; Cameron Hardy and Thomas Hardy both of Ponemah and Robin (Savannah Martin) Hardy of Red Lake, sisters; Shari (Tyrone Schoenborn, Sr.) Hardy of Red Lake, Celeste (Anthony) Erickson-Goodteacher of Redby and Jerry Begs His Own of Ponemah, special sister; Shelley English, uncle; Ronald Mosher, aunt; Karen Bowman, nieces and nephews; Ron, Sheila, Tim Julia, Tyrone, Jr., Joaquin, M.J., Juelz, Ja'Nya and Mya, great nieces and nephews; Angel, Shawn and Christina, cousins; Mike, Elsie and Holly Johnson and other relatives and many friends.

A wake for Karen will begin at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 22th and continue until her 10:00 a.m. traditional service on Friday, June 24th all being held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah. Steve Jackson will be her spiritual leader. Pallbearers for Karen will be Ron Goodteacher, Tim Goodteacher, Tyrone Schoenborn, Sr., Robin Lee Hardy, Ron Perkins and Daniel Erickson. Alternate pallbearers are Roland Wilson, Jr., Tyrone Schoenborn, Jr., Mike Johnson and Anthony Erickson. Her honorary pallbearers are Megan Wilson, Gloria Jackson, Shari Hardy, Celeste Goodteacher-Erickson, Shelley English, Wanda Lyons, Sheila Goodteacher, Carol (Johnson) Adnan, Jackie "Joker" Johnson, Peggy Owens, Sherry Dudley, Elsie Johnson, Holly Johnson, Linda Dow and Richard "Biddy" Thomas. Interment will be in the Family Burial Grounds at Ponemah following her Friday Service.
