Law requires foster homes on reservations to pass background checks

WASHINGTON—Congress has passed an act that requires American Indian tribes to conduct background checks on everyone living in a foster care house, the same protection that applies to children living off reservations.

The House on Monday, May 23, gave final passage to the Native American Children's Safety Act, which Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., authored. Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., led the legislation in the House.
