The 11th Annual Red Lake Nation Youth Leadership Conference will be held Wednesday to Friday, May 4 to May 6, 2016, at Red Lake High School in Red Lake Minnesota. The conference theme this year is "Shaping the Future."
Workshops and presentations will be held from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM each day, with a shorter day Friday. As usual, several workshops will occur simultaneously. New additions this year include culturally related workshops on moccasin and jewelry making. Other topics include how suicide affects the family, healing through art, healthy relationships, drug use and pregnancy, and health and wellness.
In addition to the workshops, a banquet will be held Thursday Evening at Seven Clans Casino Event Center at 5 p.m. (See attached agenda)
Several schools in addition to Red Lake are invited to participate. Last years participants included youth from Leech Lake, White Earth, the Bug School, Bemidji, Voyageurs Charter, and others.
This is the eleventh year that the Red Lake Tribal Council, tribal programs and other organizations have sponsored this great event for the youth of Red Lake Nation and others. A host of Red Lake member professionals, and well-known guest speakers and performers from across Indian Country, will join together to share their knowledge in leadership skills to motivate youth, and to promote native values, tradition, and culture.
