Juanita Ann Lussier, age 72, of Red Lake, began her spiritual journey on Friday, February 12, 2016 with her family by her side. She was born on March 2, 1943, in Red Lake, the daughter of A. Thomas Lussier and Verna Louise (Defoe) Lussier.

Juanita grew up in Red Lake and graduated from the Red Lake High School in 1962. She took some college courses before she began her career in 1966 as a teacher with the Red Lake Head Start and Pre School Children. Juanita was there for 42 years before she had to retire in 2007 due to health reasons.

Juanita enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and visiting with family and friends. She also liked to go to the casino with her daughters and watching her grandson play softball. Juanita has touched the lives of so many people from young to old. She dedicated 42 years of her time, patience, compassion and most of all her love for all the children at the Red Lake Head Start. In doing so, she has taught generations of children over the years and was continuing to do so until her retirement and beyond. Juanita was truly a wonderful, kind, amazing woman and she will be missed by all who knew her.

The family that Juanita joins again are her parents; A. Thomas and Verna Louise Lussier, brothers; Tom, Daryl, Lee, and Rod Lussier, sisters; Karen, Iris, Gwen Lussier and Eva Wind, special granddaughter; Chasity Mason, and special nephew; Daryl "Baby Dash" Lussier.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her son; Neil Lussier of Red Lake, daughters; Anita, Willa (Barry) and Tori Lussier all of Red Lake, grandchildren; Julian "Reyna"Lussier, Tomi "Rob" Roy, Lief, Timothy, Jon Lussier, Chase, Jonny, and Nova Mason, special granddaughter; Kylee Lussier, special sisters; Ellen, Theresa, and Shelda Lussier, special nephew; Ian Lussier, numerous children that she cared for that considered her mom and grandma, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A wake for Juanita will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 held at the Red Lake Community Center and will continue until moving to St. Mary's Catholic Church for the 2:00 p.m., service on Thursday, February 18. Father Jerry Rogers will officiate. Pallbearers will be Julian, Timothy, Ian, Dylan, Jon and Devin Lussier, Lief Saunders, Chase and Jonny Mason, and Dave Cobenais. Alternate pallbearer is David Wind. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ellen, Theresa and Shelda Lussier, Sharon Garrigan, Phyllis Thunder, Thern Hegstrom, Betty Schoenborn, Gail Stillday, Karen McNeal, Angie Johnson, and nieces and nephews. Interment will be held at her home in BOT following the service.
