Roberta Jane Holstein-Wind, "Mindiimooye"- which means "Old Lady" and "Onaabi-ishpiibinesiikwe" – which means "Looking Above Thunder Woman", of the Loon Clan, age 75, of Cass Lake, MN, began her spiritual journey at her home in Cass Lake on Sunday, February 7, 2016 with her family by her side. Roberta was born on January 20, 1941, the daughter of Joseph Holstein, Sr. and Marion (Budreau) Folstrom.

Roberta was a very strong woman who always took a challenge head on and never complained. When she was putting herself through school in the 1970's, she worked at a nursing home and raised all of her childre. Following schooling, Roberta was a teacher at the Head Start. She later took the position as director, but that took her away from the children. So, she went back to teaching where she could work hand in hand with the children and she did this for over 37 years. Roberta was the "Rock" of her family. She not only raised all her children as a single parent, she dealt with a young son who was diagnosed with cancer and not long after, passed away. Roberta had a very big heart. Her care went beyond her family to almost everyone who was sick or needed attention. She was also strong willed. When she was diagnosed with cancer in 2012, it was almost a year before she had her first surgery on January 31, 2013. From there came many chemo therapies and other treatments. Roberta was cancer free for a short time before it came back to take her home. Roberta loved working with all her kids at the head start. Even though the summer time was supposed to be vacation time for her, she would spend countless hours prepping so the children had activities for the next upcoming year. Roberta will be missed by all who knew her.

The family that she joins again are her parents; Joseph and Marion, husband; Alvin "Bunny" Wind, Sr., son; Martin Simon Wind, daughter; Dora "Dodie" Wind, brother; Robert Holstein, sisters; Frances Holstein and Carmel Headbird, grandson; Deke, great granddaughters; Allyson and Adeline, numerous aunts and uncles.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her son; Alvin (Freda) Wind, daughters; Jennie (Mark) Reyes, Marion Wind, Jody Wind, and Glenda (Roger) Bryan all of Cass Lake, brother; Joseph (Beulah) Holstein, sister; Janice (Clyde) Morgan also of Cass Lake, special great granddaughter; Candice Jacobs of Cass Lake, uncle; Eugene "Dopy" Budreau of Cass Lake, sister in-laws; Margaret Guinn of Toppenish, WA, and Ruthie Thompson of Minneapolis, 26 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter.

A wake for Roberta will begin at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 10, 2016 and will continue until the 11:00 a.m. service on Friday, February 12, all held at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Cass Lake. Father George Ross and Rev. Mark R. Olson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mario Reyes, Sr., Donald Wind, Sr., Mark Reyes, Jr., Michael Reyes, Sr., Josh Wind, Sr., Martin Wind, Alvin "Roman" Brown, and George Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers will be the Head Start Staff, Nurses and Doctors of IHS, Nurses and Doctors from Sanford Health, Missy Bowstring, Anna Atkinson, Marie Thunder, Shirley LaDuke, Lulu Wittner, Liz Wind, Melissa Castilleja, and Shirley Alvarado, Grand Children, Great Grand Children, Cousins, Nephews, and Nieces.
