Beverly Jean Thomas-Black, age 69, "Makoonce" which means "Little Bear", of Ponemah and the Bullhead Clan began her journey to the spirit world on December 31, 2015 from the Essentia Health Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. She was born on November 7th, 1946 in Red Lake, Minnesota to Alfred and Gloria (Cloud) Thomas.

Beverly worked at the Ponemah Elementary as a computer aide for 40 years. Beverly graduated from college as an Honor Student in 2006. She loved playing bingo, going to the casino but most of all she enjoyed watching her great grandchildren grow and being with the love of her life, Pete.

Beverly has been reunited with her father; Alfred Thomas Sr., her mother; Gloria Thomas and her sister Judith Spears.

She is survived by her husband, Peter Black, sons; Arlyn and Peter "Barney" Thomas both of Ponemah, daughter; Cynthia "Candy" Thomas of Ponemah, her granddaughter that she raised since she was a baby; Celeste Thomas, brothers; Richard and Alfred Thomas Jr., 11 grandchildren, great grandchildren Deionte, DeVaughn, DeAngela, Dezmond and Gary Jr. and all the ones that called her "grandma", nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives that called her "sister".

A wake for Beverly will begin at 12:00 p.m., Sunday, January 3rd and continue until her traditional service at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 5th, 2016 all being held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah, Minnesota. Steve Jackson will be her Spiritual Leader. Helping to lay Beverly to rest are Gary Johnson Sr., Gary "Scruff" Johnson, Marlyn Black, Vincent Johnson, Darwin Iceman, Derrick Rosebear, Michael Spears and Dewayne French. Her honorary pallbearers are Alisha Thomas, Violet Patterson, Barbara Thomas, Janet Thomas, Frances Cloud, Sandra Brown, Carol Spears, Debra Cloud, Janice Spears, Gretchen Spears, Sharon Rosebear, Donna Johnson, Andrea Rosebear, Rita Johnson, all the teachers and aides from the Ponemah Elementary School. Interment will be in the Black Family Burial Grounds at Ponemah following her Tuesday service.
