Melissa Renee Smith was born on September 4, 1969 in Sisseton, South Dakota the daughter of Bertha Greeley and Michael Smith. She attended school in Sisseton, South Dakota later receiving her GED. Melissa liked hanging out especially with friends, watching her team The Minnesota Vikings play, talking or texting with family & friends. Her smiles & laughs were contagious, she always had a big smile for everyone. Melissa was raised by her wonderful kunshi Lillian Greeley. Melissa was a very caring person to everyone she knew, she would help anyone if she could. Melissa was baptized at Gethsemane in Sisseton. Melissa passed away at her residence in Minneapolis on November 6th 2015. Melissa is survived by her son, Justin Hook of Ft. Totten, North Dakota; a daughter, Joslynn Smith & grandson Bryce Nelson, Jr. of Marty, South Dakota. Brothers; Carson LaBatte, Sr. of Sisseton, Tyson LaBatte of Yankton, SD. Sisters; Orvella (Buddy, Sr.) Bird of Sisseton, SD and Carrie Ann Smith of Ft. Totten, ND. Her mother Bertha Greeley of Sisseton, SD many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunties, uncles & her very special koda Joni Biddell of Sisseton, SD. Melissa was preceded in death by her father Michael Smith, son James Hook, brother Michael Smith, Jr., her loving kunshi Lillian Greeley.

All night wake services will be Monday November 9th, 2015 Tuesday November 10th 2015 at 7:00pm. Funeral Services for Melissa "Missy" Smith, 46 of Minneapolis, MN will be held on Wednesday November 11, 2015 at 11AM in Agency Village at the Community Center with Pastor Milton "Nippy" Owen & Jr. Heminger officiating. Interment will follow at Tribal Traditional Burial Ground in Claire City, South Dakota. Special music by Carl Lufkins. Pallbearers: Darwin Greeley, Andrew Left Hand, Buddy Bird, Sr., Justin White, Justin LaCroix, Jason Greeley, Troy Greeley, Michael Heth, Carson LaBatte and Justin Hook. Honorary Pallbearers: Joni Biddell, Buddy Bird, Jr., Marsha LaFontaine, Park Rangers, all her relatives & friends.
