Gordon Louis Northbird Sr., 70, of Walker, MN peacefully passed Friday, November 6, 2015 at his home in Walker.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Mission Community Center in Cass Lake, Minnesota. Interment will be at the Northbird Family Burial Grounds. Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji assisted with the arrangements.

He was born on May 28, 1945 in Cass Lake, MN the son of Louis Sr. and Adella (Stillday) Northbird. He was raised and educated in Cass Lake, and graduated from Bemidji High School. He logged for a number of years, and always enjoyed being in the woods collecting and splitting firewood. He married Shirley Mae LaDuke and they raised a family together, they later divorced. He was a Heavy Equipment Operator and made his career maintaining, plowing, and building roads for the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe for 40 plus years.As the Roads Maintenance Supervisor, he was instrumental in expanding the Maintenance Department for the Leech Lake Tribal Government over the years . He married Albertina "Peggy" Thompson in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were together for over 30 years when she passed away in September of 2013. He enjoyed and was known for his cooking. He also enjoyed watching sports, hunting, fishing, ricing, collecting coins, attending pow-wows, and starting every day reading his newspapers the Bemidji Pioneer, the Cass Lake Times, the Walker Pilot, and the Star-Tribune. He loved spending time with his family and joking around with those he was fond of. He lived to provide for his family and will be missed.

Grandchildren, Waaseyaa Martin, Nimise Martin, Nishiime Martin, GiiwedinBines "Jhon" Martin, Zegaanakwad Martin, Faron Clark, Destinee Clark, Cheyenne Clark, Miranda Northbird, Jared (Theresa) Thompson, Natasha (Charles) Thompson, Allen (Josie) Strong, and Simone Strong.

Great-Grandchildren, Camilla Thompson, Taylor Jenkins,

Aubrianna Strong, and Deandra Smith,

Step-Great-Grandchildren, Ethan Smith, and Dominic Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Albertina "Peggy" Thompson, step-daughter Denise Thompson, and grandson Benjamin Northbird, sister Arlene Northbird, brothers Louis Northbird Jr., Gerald Northbird Sr., and great-grandson Tristan Thompson.
