Thelma Rose Smith, "Dancing Star Woman", age 58, of Red Lake, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015 in Red Lake. Thelma was one of 15 children born to Herbert and Delores (Pierre) Smith Sr. on April 1, 1957 in Red Lake, Minnesota.

Thelma enjoyed making crafts for her family and friends and hand-crafting her grandchildren's dancing outfits. She liked going to powwows and the casino. Thelma's favorite thing to do was to go riding around the reservation and Bemidji. She loved to make people laugh and enjoyed the jokes and laughter of others. It made Thelma happy to see her family and the visits with her grandchildren made her day.

The family that Thelma joins again are her parents; Herbert Sr. and Delores Smith, brothers; Gary and Clinton Smith, sisters; Marjorie and Katherine Smith and her grandparents; Joseph and Gertrude Pierre.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her significant other; Charlie Stewart of White Earth, sons; Jeremy (Gina Graves) Smith of Red Lake and Charles Michael (Marie King) Smith of Audoban, daughter; Ronalda Smith of Texas, brothers; E Jay (Calsandra) Smith of Walker and Herbert (Colleen Bonniwell) Smith, Jr. of Minneapolis, sisters; Clarice and Beverly Smith both of Red Lake, Vicky Smith of Redby, Marilyn (Raymond Barrett) Smith of Red Lake, Tracey Smith of Minneapolis, Alberta (Elliott Whipple) Smith of Cass Lake, Patricia Smith of Redby and Diana Smith of Red Lake, grandchildren; Meeka, Becca, Nikita, Charles Jr., Katrina, Josiah, Cyrus, Lavae, Mikah, Keira, Kalli, Jerome and Lourdes, special daughter; Lacey Culver, numerous other relatives and many friends.

A wake for Thelma will begin at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 26th at the Little Rock Community Center and continue until her 2:00 p.m. service on Friday, August 28th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake. Father Jerry Rogers will officiate. Pallbearers for Thelma will be Allen Smith, Derrick Smith, Ralph Cloud, Jr., Jason Jones, Davis Smith, Greg Smith, Kyle Hardy, Dustin Smith, Lee Smith, Nathan Smith and Elliott Whipple. Her honorary pallbearers will be all her brothers and sisters; Clarice Cloud, E Jay Smith, Beverly Smith, Vicky Smith, Herbert Smith, Jr., Marilyn Smith, Tracey Smith, Alberta Smith, Patricia Smith, Diana Smith and Lacey Culver. Interment will be in the Redby Community Cemetery at Redby following her Friday service.
