Spiritual Run for sobriety begins in Red Lake

REDBY—Rain drops sprinkled down from an overcast sky as runners trickled in Wednesday morning for the 19th annual Annishinaabe Spiritual Run in Redby. A group of about 50 people launched a four-day relay trek across northern Minnesota to celebrate sobriety and wellbeing. Some of the runners would stop after the five-mile fun walk/run from Redby to Red Lake—others would go the 200-mile distance.

"I've gone all the way many times," said Floyd "Buck" Jourdain Jr. with Red Lake Chemical Health. "We have a good core group of about 40 runners."

Longtime runner Laurel Lussier of Red Lake participated in the fun run. She said she runs to try to beat her time from the year prior, also for health, fitness and because it's a good cause.
