Sex assault survivor Rinelle Harper 'resilient' as tragedy strikes again

In the early hours of July 17, flames engulfed a two-bedroom plywood trailer in Garden Hill First Nation, Man., a remote fly-in reservation about 500 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg. It was a windy morning. The fire spread quickly and burned the place to the ground. It was the childhood home of Rinelle Harper.

Caesar Harper, Rinelle’s father, was with his family in Winnipeg when he received a text message from a friend on the reservation: “Bad news. House burned down.”

For a family all too accustomed to bad news, this was a blow. The Harper family had been planning to visit the following week.
