Keetoowah Cherokees host three-team youth stickball tournament, making tribal history

TAHLEQUAH - The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma made history on Saturday, July 18. The Keetoowah Cherokee tribe held its first ever UKB Youth Stickball tournament on the grounds of the UKB tribal complex.

Three teams participated in a double-elimination stickball tournament: the Warriors, UKB Summer Youth Camp players; NDN Outlaws, Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma youth team; and the Nighthawk Juniors, youth members of the Professional Nighthawk team.

The tournament began at 10:15 a.m. with the teams marching onto the field led by UKB Chief George Wickliffe and 2014-2015 Junior Miss Keetoowah Cherokee, Raelie Grayson. UKB Assistant Chief Joe H. Bunch gave the invocation during opening ceremonies and Wickliffe threw up the first ball to begin play.
