Red Lake Juvenile Center hosts 2nd of Four District meetings in July in Redby

REDBY, MN - The Red Lake Juvenile Center hosted the second of four District meetings on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at the Redby Community Center.

Labeled as The Children's Healing Center (Abinoojiiyag Noojimoo Wigamig), these community meetings were set up as informational meetings in all districts to introduce the new program to the Reservation, and gain new ideas and insight from community members. This facility is expected to be open for service in late fall of 2015.

Two years ago the Red Lake Tribal Council assembled an "Alternatives to Juvenile Incarceration" planning team. This team would develop a strategic plan that would lead to a decrease of Red Lake youth involvement in the justice system.

The plan was approved by the Tribal Council, along with the hiring of Muriel Dudley as the Director and two youth intervention specialists, Alyss Seki and Tanya White.

In a story published last week on RLNN Dudley is quoted as stating, "The primary goals of Abinoojiiyag Noojimoo Wigamig is to promote mental, emotional, and cultural health and wellness for Red Lake youth involved in the juvenile justice system, and just as important, to promote mental, emotional, and cultural health and wellness of all Red Lake youth on the Red Lake Reservation."

Dudley also stated that It is their desire to implement services that will help Red Lake youth succeed in life, and that they needed input from the community.

The third meeting is scheduled for this evening, Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 5:30 - 7:30 PM at the Little Rock Community Center.

The remaining meeting in July is scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 5:30 - 7:30 PM in the Ponemah Community

Meals will be served at all meetings and everyone is invited to attend and give their input.
