Janice Marie Morley

(September 10, 1939 - July 9, 2015)

Janice Morley, age 75, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Janice Marie Smith was born September 10, 1939, in White Earth, MN, the daughter of John and Evelyn (LaDoux) Smith. Her youth was spent in the White Earth area where she attended the White Earth Mission School. Following her schooling, Janice worked as a waitress in Detroit Lakes followed by employment at Swift Transport, also in Detroit Lakes. She then spent a few years living and working in the Minneapolis, MN, area.

On June 1, 1964, Janice was united in marriage to Myles Peter Morley. Over the next several years, they raised their family in various communities while Pete worked construction. Pete retired in 2003 and they have made their home in Mahnomen since 1995. Janice remained in their home following Pete's death in August of 2012.

Janice was a special lady to many and will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Her door was always open to friends and family in need. She had a big heart with a gentle caring nature and was always putting others before herself. Janice's greatest love was being able to spend time with family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, dice and a trip to the casino.

Janice is survived by five children: John (Myrna) Smith of Callaway, MN, Cheryl Smith (Danny Stevens) of Ulen, MN, Brian (Vicki) Smith, Michael (Robin) Morley and Lisa Denenny all of Mahnomen; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Leonard (Mary) Smith of White Earth; four sisters: Connie (Tom) Bevins of Mahnomen, Patsy Roy of Ogema, MN, Edith (Jack) Chamberlain of Dearborn, MI, and Phyllis Torgerson of Detroit Lakes, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Lori Morley; grandson, Josh Morley; son-in-law, Micky Denenny; daughter-in-law, Kristi Morley; two brothers, Carl and Dennis "Joe" and two sisters, Evelyn and infant, Geraldine.
