Saxhaug involved in injury-accident east of Cass Lake

BEMIDJI -- A 21-year-old woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Cass County on Sunday that also involved state Sen. Tom Saxhaug, DFL-Grand Rapids.

Danielle Vatalaro, Duluth, suffered a non-life-threatening injury in a crash reported just after 3 p.m. Sunday on Highway 2, east of Cass Lake, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

The Patrol said Saxhaug, 67, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 2 in a 2014 Ford Escape when he slowed for a motorcycle that was parked on the right shoulder of the highway. Vatalaro was also traveling east on Highway 2 and rear-ended Saxhaug's vehicle when he slowed, the Patrol said. Both Saxhaug and Vatalaro were wearing seat belts.
