Cass Lake man pleads not guilty to sex assault on 11-year-old

BEMIDJI—A Cass Lake man recently entered not guilty pleas to two counts of criminal sexual conduct in Beltrami County District Court.

Lance Kingbird, 47, was charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct after he was accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in October. Kingbird pleaded not guilty to two of the charges June 29. He entered a not guilty plea to the other count Dec. 8.

First-degree criminal sexual conduct involving penetration or contact with a person under the age of 13 carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $40,000 fine. Kingbird was being held on a $100,00 bond in the Beltrami County Jail. He was released from custody June 30 with a future court date of Aug. 4.
