Lac Des Mille Lacs First Nation chief defends her re-election

The chief of Lac Des Mille Lacs First Nation, near Thunder Bay, Ont., says she is "confident" allegations that new status cards were secretly issued prior to her re-election will be be proven false.

Judy Maunula, who uses her Ojibway name, Whitecloud, in her role as chief, said the First Nation leadership takes any allegation of misconduct or wrongdoing very seriously.

Whitecloud's only challenger in the election, Kathleen Sawdo, filed an appeal of the election results through the First Nation's custom election code process.
