Ervin "Sandy" Goodwin

(November 30, 1952 - June 7, 2015)

Ervin "Sandy" Goodwin, age 63, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at his home, under care of his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Ervin Julius Goodwin Jr., the son of Ervin Sr. and Geraldine (Villebrun) Goodwin, was born on November 30, 1952 in White Earth, MN. He grew up in the Minneapolis, MN, area and attended school there. As a young man, Sandy worked in various jobs while living in the Twin Cities. From 1992 until 2005, he was employed as a security guard at Mystic Lake Casino. He then moved to Mahnomen and began working at the Shooting Star Casino. In February 2015, Sandy was diagnosed with cancer. He has continued to make his home in Mahnomen and was lovingly cared for by his family during his final months. Sandy was always happy and he was always smiling his smile would light up a room. He was known for his positive attitude and joking around with family and friends. He also enjoyed going to the casino and gambling in his free time. Sandy was a good dad, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a gentleman and always respectful to others. Sandy truly treasured the time he was able to spend with his son, grandsons, and extended family members.

Sandy is survived by his son, Michael (Veronica) Skomsouvog and two grandsons, Nolan and Beau, all of Blaine, MN; his significant other, Janice Schindler of Mahnomen; his father, Ervin Sr., of Mahnomen; four brothers: Merton Turpin, of Mahnomen, John Turpin of Marion Il, Craig (Donna) Goodwin of Richfield, MN, and Guy Goodwin of Mahnomen; four sisters: Mary (Skip) Weigelt of Minneapolis, Geri "Ninny" Goodwin of Minneapolis, Charli (Ken) Lacey of Richfield, and Bobbi (Joel) Rodriquez of Bloomington, MN; and one sister-in-law, Bonnie Turpin of Miltona, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his mother, four brothers: Terry, Gary, Clyde, and Todd; and one sister, Caroline.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen with a feast to follow at First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen.
