Tribe faces repayment of $225K

PEMBROKE — The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina could have to pay back almost $225,000 to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in money that was used to fund ineligible programs and services.

Tribal Chairman Paul Brooks, during a news conference Wednesday, presented the results of the final 2014 monitoring review of the tribe’s Indian Housing Block Grant. The review was conducted last August by HUD’s Eastern/Woodlands Office of Native American Programs.
